Warm. Sheltered. Hidden. Dryer vent terminations and chimney flues offer everything birds need to nest — protection from predators, insulation from weather, and a structure that's already partially built.
Spring is the busy season. Most nesting activity in Florida and coastal Alabama happens March through August. By the time homeowners notice a problem — chirping inside walls, debris falling into the firebox, dryer not drying — the nest is often well-established.
The real risk is fire and CO. A nest in a dryer vent is a fire hazard waiting for the next load of laundry. A nest in a chimney can prevent proper draft, push carbon monoxide back into the home, and cause smoke spillage every time you light a fire.
Some species are federally protected. Chimney swifts in particular are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Active nests cannot legally be removed during nesting season — and disturbing one carries serious federal penalties.

Newman's removes nests from dryer vents and chimneys across the Florida Panhandle and coastal Alabama. Every job follows the same process — built around safety, code compliance, and federal wildlife law.
Identify the species first. Before any removal work, we identify what's nesting. Most species can be removed and the system cleaned the same day. Federally protected species require us to wait until the nesting season ends.
Remove the nest and inspect the system. Once removal is legal and safe, we extract the nest and any associated debris from the duct or flue. We inspect the surrounding structure for damage, droppings, parasites, and code violations introduced by the nesting activity.
Clean what the nest leaves behind. Bird nests bring more than the visible material — droppings, mites, and lint accumulation that can host bacteria. We clean the system to NFPA 211 standards before returning it to service.
Install prevention. Most nest removal jobs end with installing or replacing a code-compliant cap or guard so the same problem doesn't recur next season. Parts billed separately.
Document the work. Every job ends with a written certificate. If we encountered a federally protected species, the certificate documents the legal compliance — useful for HOA records and insurance carriers.
Newman's holds CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep #10104 and NFI Gas Specialist #177874 — credentials held by only a small number of contractors on the Gulf Coast.
